Indiana yesterday passed a ban on all abortions after 22 weeks, including in cases of rape or incest. The reason, as you can see GOP Rep. Eric Turner explain in this video, was because “someone who is desirous of an abortion could simply say that they’ve been raped or there’s incest.”

Democratic Rep. Linda Lawson responded to Turner with understandable emotion, since she used to work in a sex-crimes unit. “They don’t make it up!” she said, tearily.

Her colleagues passed the ban anyway.

We wish this was an April Fool’s. We really do.

So now I’m crying, at the kitchen table, because goddamn. Goddamn. There is no man out there who will ever know that fear of missing a period, of pulling down their underwear or sitting on a toilet and feeling that weight fall off their shoulders, because they are not pregnant. And there is no man out there who has the right to tell me what I can and cannot do in that situation, what options I am allowed. 

Except, in America, there is. And this totally fucks with my mind, and my heart. Goddamn it America. Damn it.
